Abstract
Factors of successful studying within higher education process are related to knowledge, skills, habits and motivation. Furthermore, students’ personality and self efficacy contribute to better adjustment, planning of activities and achieving success. Secondary school curricula and the success students achieved during their education so far, have impact on their success as well.
The objective of this paper is to investigate students’ opinion on the need for using additional services and supports in the learning process, implemented at institutions of higher education, which create an integrative part of effective learning environment such as student’s service, mentors support, learning skills development etc. The method used included analysis of answers provided by students participating in the survey. Compared were answers received from a sample of undergraduate freshmen at one American and one Croatian college. The results shoe there is a need for using additional services and support of both samples. However, students also agree that there is a need for developing consciousness in relation to such services as well as for the timely and accurate informing. Student’s suggestions may be used in creating the support services and training of their staff.
