The association between human capital and overall productivity in the European Union countries

Abstract


This study measures and compares human capital of 27 European Union countries based on seven indicators. The overall human capital ranking lists Denmark at the top and Bulgaria at the end. Human capital has a major impact on the rate of productivity. Productivity is one of the indicators of business success of the economy. In this paper, we investigate the relationship between human capital and productivity measured by GDP per person employed. The research findings provide valuable information for policy makers to formulate effective strategies and provide map for the European Union countries in future wealth creation.
