Social networks are an important communication medium on the Internet, popular among many generations of users of the Internet who access it by using different electronic devices. Because of their popularity, social networks are subject to security threats. This paper presents results from the research of students at the Faculty of humanities and social sciences in Zagreb, Croatia. The results indicate areas in use of social networks which require additional attention on the side of users to avoid security problems like weak or old passwords, reception and use of social networks application from unknown sources, prevent personal data theft etc.
