Abstract


Sound recording quality, whether digital or analogue, presupposes true-to-life recording of the original audio signal. The quality of a high-fidelity audio recording has to ensure a faithful reproduction of the sounds of a symphony orchestra. Contemporary audio media do not meet the requirements of high-fidelity recording since they do not sufficiently utilize the frequency range. In other words, the multiple of the highest frequency in a signal can not render all the odd and even harmonics which constitute the completeness of a particular tone.
The quality of the fidelity of audio recording depends on the quantity of information selected and stored during recording using digital and analogue technology, respectively. In digital recording, the amount of information is represented by the number of samples used for audio recording and reproduction as well as their dynamic. This paper deals with the values of these parameters in high-fidelity recording. The paper presents the results of the research into characteristics of faithful and high-fidelity audio recording considering the frequency range, signal-to-noise ratio and dynamic range.
