The main research problem of this paper is to find out if student academic performance influences her/his position in different social networks of students at faculty. Further, there is a need to identify other predictors of this position.  In the process of problem solving we use Social Network Analysis (SNA) that is based on data we collected from students at the Faculty of Organization and Informatics, University of Zagreb. There are two data samples: in basic sample N=27 and in extended N=52 . We collected data on social-demographic position, academic performance, learning and motivation styles, attitudes towards individual and team work as well as informal cooperation.  Afterwards three different networks (exchange of learning material, team work and informal communication) are constructed.  These networks we analyzed with different metrics: betweeness, closeness and degree centrality.  The main result is that position in a social network cannot be forecasted by academic success.
