Last modified: 2016-09-09
Abstract
This essay establishes differences in the gender equality in kindergartens, and its purpose is to illustrate and point at differences between male and female kindergarten teachers. Nowadays it is very important to give an opportunity to a person, regardless the gender, in order for him/her to be able to show their maximum potential without the gender categorization that can doom them as unsuitable for the job in question. Croatia is unfortunately still a country where gender discrimination is present at a high percentage (1). For this investigation the author used three techniques: Likert's scale; semantic differential and open question type in order to survey kindergarten teachers (male and female). The goal of this researching is to establish opinions of male and female kindergarten teachers; at what degree has their gender influenced their job, and how accepted are males versus females as kindergarten teachers. The research is really extensive; therefore this survey will accent only the parts indicating where the biggest differences the genders are seen. The purpose of this survey is to get the opinions from the employees themselves and their views of the gender discrimination possibilities. The research has been conducted on 66 examinees from which 65 are female and only one is a male examinee. All examinees have agreed to the examining process and have given their consent. Out of 47% of examinees answered that the male kindergarten teachers are accepted well since they are the minority applicants. Out of 62% of examinees, answered that the female kindergarten teachers are accepted well since they are in majority. However, out of 30% of examinees agree with the statement that the average of male and female kindergarten teachers is equal. The analysis, gathered from surveying the parents and other fellow employees, the female teachers have gotten better acceptance results. The results of this research is interesting due to the fact that once all elements of the survey are taken in consideration, the female gender teachers are in favor over the male counterparts. The study is very useful since it clearly demonstrates that discrimination of the employees gender is present in kindergartens. Furthermore it is a clear sign that this issue has to be addressed and worked on.
