Managerial decision making has become one among most important managerial tasks in nowadays organizations (of any types) and is (usually) based on accurate and timely information. Therefore information has become a vital component and crucial resource in managerial decision making process. In that context proper dissemination of information at various managerial levels in organization has become one among crucial tasks in organization. Organizations have different possibilities for information support of their business, especially managers. With the capability to provide relevant (e.g. accurate and timely) information, management information systems (MIS) represent an important aid (and/or useful tool) in managerial decision making process. Managers at different managerial levels (usually there main levels are identified in organizations) have importantly different information needs, due to the nature of their work, and especially decision making. The paper discusses following theses: (1) MIS is a primary source for providing relevant (e.g. accurate and timely) information for managerial decision making, and (2) manager’s information needs are importantly dependent upon their managerial level in organization and consequently managers at different managerial levels use different (types of) MIS. Often emphasized problematic in business practice are unfulfilled manager’s information needs, despite usage of MIS. The paper highlights the importance of addressing manager’s information needs in the process of MIS creation/design. We make some new suggestions how to more holistically address the manager’s information needs in the frame of MIS design/creation process in order to ensure that MIS will correspond with manager’s information needs.
