A comparison of graphic applications' performance in Microsoft Windows and Apple OS environment
Last modified: 2008-08-01
Abstract
When planning to equip a graphic design company, one must choose between two competitive operating systems in the market - the Microsoft Windows OS and the Apple OS, including the corresponding hardware available. The decision is usually clouded by a sea of doubt regarding some important factors; the cost-effectiveness, an increase of competitiveness, as well as recognition of a company's prestige. Of course the human factor related to the usability of a single computer shouldn't be ignored. With this paper we aim to display results of a research focused on the concrete data processing speed and using various graphic applications, thus suggesting the better choice of the two systems. Researches and measurements undertaken prior to ours lose their relevance due to the formerly present difference in the CPU type used by Macintosh computers. By switching to the Intel processors a legal native installation of Microsoft Windows OS to an Apple computer was enabled, giving us an opportunity of having two separately installed and independent operating systems on a single computer. Therefore, we are given an opportunity to use a single hardware environment and undertake measurements of various assignments' completion speed while using the same graphic applications on both systems.
